SNOW ANGEL

Reality star Kim Kardashian was flour bombed on the red carpet in West Hollywood on Thursday night.
Just before 8 PM, after finishing posing for the photographers at an event for her new fragrance, True Reflection, at the London Hotel off of Sunset Blvd., Kim was speaking to the house crew on the red carpet when a young woman strolled up to the reality star and dumped a bag of what appeared to be flour on Kim's head.
"She came from Kim's left, with a Zip-Lock baggie," an Access Hollywood staffer on the scene said, noting the bag had about three fists full of white powder, believed to be flour. "The girl just kind of showed up on the red carpet."
According to the Access staffer, who witnessed the event, no one stopped the woman, as she approached Kim.
"She went in between Kim and her publicist and started dumping the bag on Kim's head and shoulders," the staffer recounted.
Only a small amount of the powder actually touched the reality star, landing on her head and shoulders.
"She was shocked," the Access witness said of Kim's reaction. "And, as soon as it happened, she put her head down and security grabbed her and they rushed her off into the elevators."
As for the flour bomber, she tried to briskly walk away from the scene, but was stopped and escorted away by security.
Not one to let a little flour stop her, after about 10 minutes, Kim went back to work, returning to chat with the media, where she made jokes about the incident.
"She was very bubbly, very high-spirited and she actually joked about it," the Access staffer recounted. "She said she wasn't too upset because the woman didn't get any on her face. She made a joke about having told her makeup artist she needed more powder."
It was not immediately clear why the young woman chose to dump the substance on Kim's head, however, late last year, someone flour bombed Kim's pal, Jonathan Cheban.
According to reports at the time, the assailant said they did it for Kris Humphries, Kim's ex, during the incident.
To see what happened at the event and Kim's interview, tune into Access Hollywood on Friday night.

Lacoste is increasing its push into women’s ready-to-wear with the opening of its first store catering exclusively to women. The 970-square-foot unit, located in the Passy Plaza gallery in the west of Paris, was designed to display the first Lacoste women’s collection designed by artistic director Felipe Oliveira Baptista. It features oak floorboards, rugs and backlit latticework aimed at giving the space the feel of “every girl’s dream walk-in closet,” the brand stated. The store will offer ready-to-wear, shoes, eyewear, watches and leather goods.

LEVI'S BUNS OF SHAME

When it comes to selling clothes, size matters. A campaign for Levis Curve ID Jeans was banking on it, until it backfired.

The line of customized shape-fitting denims boasts in a print ad, "hotness comes in all shapes and sizes." But underneath that message of empowerment, are three models with very similar, slender body types. Aside from slight differences in backside protrusions, none of the models reflect the size 14 shape of the average American woman.

Check out another ad campaign sparking outrage.
Copyranter, an advertising watchdog blog that posted the magazine ad Wednesday, called it an insult to women size six and over.

"The company doesn't seem to understand what 'different' means," added Jezebel's Anna North. "See, 'hotness comes in all shapes and sizes,' as long as those shapes are minute variations on the same thin, ponytailed woman."

In a call to Levis, a spokesperson told Shine that particular ad is actually from last year. Their latest campaign takes into account the heaping dose of criticism from bloggers since the first ads launched in 2010. ("If you put the words 'Bold Curve' next to a woman, I expect her to have, um, bold curves and preferably legs that don't look like toothpicks," activist Shelby Knox wrote of one of the first Curve ID ads.)

LEVI'S NEW AD

In fact the most recent ads for Curve ID, launched last week, plays down the word "curve" and play up the toothpicks. More street art than self-help, the look of the new campaign for the 'Ankle Skinny' Curve ID jeans, buries the curves behind six long slim legs. It's hard to tell any difference at all between the three body types presented because of the way they're posing, but it's safe to say nobody's a size 14.

"By no means is the advertising representative of all women's body types across the globe," Levis rep Ibby Clifford tells Shine, adding that a more diverse gallery of "real women" exists on their Facebook page

Levis' Curve ID brand concept attempts to eliminate the physical torment as well as the psychological baggage of buying jeans. That's probably why the campaign has historically taken so much heat, compared to every other jeans ad with a skinny model. While the line features a wide range of sizes, the focus is on the curvature of four different body types: Slight, Demi, Bold and the more recent, Supreme. The Starbucks-inspired naming convention is designed to take the stigma out of jeans sizes and celebrate the curvier figure. But ever since the line launched in 2010, its ad campaigns have struggled to portray real body types in print.

It's not the first to apparel brand to stumble while promoting equal opportunity designs. American Apparel incited critics last year when it announced a plus size modeling contest to promote their new XL line.

While advertisers struggle with the demand for larger sizes, merchandisers are embracing it. The Limited launched an entire online shopping site last year for, Eloquii, their line for women sizes 14w and over. In the UK, size 12 mannequins are storming department stores. Displaysense, one of the biggest suppliers for clothing chains, has seen a 16 percent increase in requests for curvier mannequins.

Have jeans gotten too niche? Check out a new type of denims with a special feature.
In the past year, Levis has had so much success with their Curve ID line, they've expanded the range of cuts and styles, notably adding a larger shape option called Supreme, "designed to solve the fit frustrations of the curviest women."

Despite the wider variety of sizes in stores, one size still fits magazines-and it's too small for a growing number of critics. Still, even those critical of Levis' Curve ID promotions, seem to like the actual jeans. "They've made some nicely fitting jeans, albeit jeans that still fit squarely into a body-oppressive paradigm," confesses My Body Image's Taylor Owen. "I'll admit, I bought two pairs. "

UNIQLO GONE ZILLA

アメリカ合衆国へようこそ
Japanese for Welcome to the United States

Uniqlo, a Janase brand. It has been around since 1984. Uniqlo have stores through out Asia and Europe and now they are ready to take over the U.S. with a bang. They opened their first store in the Soho area of New York City in October of 2006. It was an instant hit with the chic down town crowds.  By the end of this year there will be two more stores open; one of the them will be 91000 sq ft on the swanky street of 5th Avenue and 53rd Street. The other will be on the busy, business booming area of Herald Square 34th Street.

Some of Uniqlo's competitions include: H&M, Forevere 21, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Gap. What does expanding mean to the United States and the competitions? You can imaging the number of jobs that Uniqlo will bring to fashion industry. The opportunity to learn from a foreign brand and they way they view and do business is inevitable. For the competitors it means that they will need to pay closer attention to prices and promotions, Customer service, convenient, and last but not least store design/visual style.

Store design/visual styles play a big part in when competing to draw customers into a store. A store's design/merchandising must speak to the target customer. It must have the right colors, lighting, and style. Store stylists and merchandisers have to always think like the customers and always reinvent themselves with the growth or declining of the economy. Uniqlo has no problem with that. Just ask Mihee Yi, the Award winning Creative Director of Uniqlo-USA, here is a link to a Q&A about merchandising and some other rewards and challenges about her job. http://vmsd.com/content/qa-with-uniqlos-mihee-yi

FASHION DOWNGRADING-GOOD OR BAD?

Fashion brand, Rock and Republic well known for there jeans is going exclusive with Khol's. What does that mean for the brand now? do you think its a smart thing to do for its business? do you think that it will decrease the value for the brand? It seems to be the trend or the way to go for many well known, luxury designer like, Vera Wang and Issac Mizrahi to collaborate with discount stores. I think that a good business  should always have a plan B,  and once they get to B should start planning for C, with the way that the economy is at the moment. The fashion industry is one of the industries that is taking it the hardest by this failing economy.

I say, it is good move that t Rock and Republic is making by joining Khol's because, it will help them gain the customers that could not afford their lines at Saks or Bloomingdale's. I'm almost certain that, the clients they had at the luxury boutiques aren't buying from them as much anymore which is why they are branching out to Khol's in the first place. To me it not a bad thing for Rock and Republic and other brands to sell their clothes at discount retailers; its a good business decision. With good advertising and celebrity endorsement I think that the brand can regain its popularity.
